Background

Speech Therapy Unit, Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University has obtained funding from HSBC to develop an e-learning platform to support individuals with swallowing disorders. The purpose is to transfer knowledge and skills relating to helping individuals with swallowing disorders to the general public and staff of hostels and elderly homes.

The development of the e-learning platform is led by Clinical Associates of Speech Therapy Unit and developed by speech therapists, dietitians and occupational therapist as a team. The content of swallowing disorders and related issues are introduced interestingly by movies, animations and minigames.

We appreciate that staff of Wai Ji Christian Service provided valuable information and comments in the proposal for application of funding. We would like to thank staff of Wai Ji Christian Service and Fu Hong Society for their active participation and valuable suggestion in the trial period so that we can make sure that the e-learning platform runs smoothly.

Special thanks to the ‘actors’ of the videos. Their performance allow us to demonstrate the information more clearly.

Lastly, we must thank Hong Kong Productivity Council to help develop this e-learning platform.
